PURPOSE OF JOB: The Physical Therapist will be responsible for assessing students' physical development level; providing appropriate treatment to meet individualized student objectives; identifying architectural barriers; providing recommendations for accessibility; and providing recommendations for school needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following.
- Provide direct and consultative Physical Therapy to students who qualify, per their IEP, for services.
- Provide initial and reevaluations:
- Assess students' functional capabilities and/or classroom environment for the purpose of determining student's functional level and developing recommendations for maximum curriculum access. Make recommendations for classroom activities, daily living activities and home programs as requested.
- Assess students' gross motor and development skills (e.g. perceptual-motor, motor coordination, sensory development, muscle strength, etc.) for the purpose of determining student needs and developing recommendations.
- Evaluate effects of physical therapy treatments and fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices by observing, noting, and evaluating student's progress; recommending adjustments and modifications.
- Evaluate wheelchairs, adaptations, assistive devices, prosthetics and orthotics, as needed. Evaluate school equipment to help determine appropriate for the student's particular needs.
- Assist in the training and supervision of classroom staff implementing therapy activities.
- Cooperate with other school staff members in planning goals, objectives and methodology for service delivery.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by federal and state mandate, District policy, and administrative regulations.
- Support families in accessing community resources.
- Participate as a member of the student's evaluation and Individual Educational Plan team.
- Work in conjunction with other therapists and staff members to insure a comprehensive team approach to student treatment.
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements
- Participate in District professional development and staff meetings.
- Be enrolled as a Medicaid provider within the Kansas City Public Schools.
- Complete all required forms for Medicaid billing (i.e. physician referral, therapy logs and progress reports).
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: none
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed Physical Therapist in Missouri
- Graduate of an accredited School of Physical Therapy
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with pediatric Physical Therapy

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of work year: 10 month calendar 187 days
