Job Description
**Providence is calling a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) (Occupational Therapy, Day Shift, 0.0 FTE) to Providence St. Joseph Care Center in Spokane, Washington. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all especially those who are poor and vulnerable.**
**In this position you will:**
+ Provide care in accordance with physician orders and the established plan of care by the evaluating Occupational Therapist. Assess the effectiveness of treatment and consults with the supervising Occupational Therapist to modify treatment to achieve goals.
+ Implement therapy plan of care in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist and the multi-disciplinary team.
+ Demonstrate an ability to treat the wide range of diagnoses and be knowledgeable in therapy treatments, goals and contraindications for treatment.
+ Prepare clients for therapy, and transport them to and from therapy areas.
+ Provide client/family education and counseling regarding issues related to rehabilitation treatments and goals, safety risks, review process and/or other issues within scope of practice. Teach exercise programs and compensatory techniques or skills for managing ongoing physical or functional deficits, participate in care conferences.
+ Implement discharge plans under the supervision of the supervising Occupational Therapist. Participate in team reassessments and discharge planning. Teach client or family discharge therapy program.
+ Assist in obtaining adaptive equipment. Instruct clients/family members to use therapeutic activities to restore and maintain maximal level of function. Instruct clients in use of adaptive techniques and/or devices to aide in accomplishing specific tasks.
**Required qualifications for this position include:**
+ Associate's degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant
+ Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) certification in Washington State
+ CPR certification, or within ninety (90) days of the date of hire the employee is responsible for attending a Providence St Joseph Care Center Skills Review class if they do not have a current CPR card upon hire.
**Preferred qualification for this position include:**
+ 1 year of experience in an acute care or long-term care facility

Providence St. Joseph Care Center in Spokane, Washington is located on the campus of Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital. Our Transitional Care Unit is designed for patients coming out of the hospital who need skilled nursing care, end of life care, or rehabilitation for those recovering from surgery or who have a functional loss from illness, disease, or an accident. Our Long Term Care unit provides skilled nursing in a residential setting, addressing the needs of our residents through creating a sense of community and home and providing a model of care that is resident-centered.
