Job Description - Speech Language Pathologist
Qualifications: Indiana Teaching License in Speech Language
Reports to: Director of Special Services or his/her designee
Job Goal: To help reduce/eliminate/accommodate speech, language, and hearing disorders within the individual student's ability to derive full benefit from the corporations' educational program.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provides screening to identify possible speech and language impairments. Assists with the hearing screening process.
- Provides assessment/diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, auditory perception, and language impairments.
- Compiles data on student's history: health, family, early developmental, and environmental as required for assessment.
- Writes/implements the Individual Education Plan
- Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of students with disabilities in the areas of speech, language, and hearing-impaired; cooperates with the classroom teachers and staff members to implement therapy via suggestions for the student's daily activities.
- Maintains records and submits all required reports and documentation of students receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
- Is a resource person to staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech and language impairments.
- Assists/guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
- Requisitions required supplies and maintains equipment and supplies.
- Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement.
- Performs other reasonably-related duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services.
Terms of Employment:
Days and salary established by the teacher's contract of the school corporation which employs the SLP.
Evaluation:
According to each school corporations' teacher contract policy.
