About Ozark Campus:
Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus is the regional provider for technical and career education, offering more than 25 programs with a variety of industry specific options, as well as certificates of proficiency, technical certificates, associate degrees and general education coursework. The Ozark Campus is located on I-40 between Fort Smith and Russellville, Arkansas, in the city of Ozark. The campus, which is more than 26 acres and includes a half-mile exercise path and disc golf course, is located along Arkansas Highway 23 North in Ozark, Arkansas. The city of Ozark, with a population of approximately 3,500, is located on the banks of the Arkansas River and surrounded to the north by the Ozark National Forest and to the south by the Ouachita National Forest. Located to the west of Ozark is the city of Fort Smith, a commercial and industrial center for western Arkansas. Russellville, home to Arkansas Tech University's main campus and an area of vigorous industrial development, is located to the southeast of Ozark on Interstate 40.
Position Summary:
The Workforce Education Faculty of Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program Director provides leadership and effective instruction in the OTA program. The OTA Program Director's Responsibilities include classroom, clinical, and lab instruction, maintenance of classroom records, advisement of students, service on campus committees, leadership in the OTA program including student recruitment and program excellence communication with representatives in the field, and adherence to accreditation standards. The position reports to the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Workforce Advancement.
The Program Director will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation, accreditation, and regulation requirements of the program. This position will also be responsible for the instruction and management of assigned classes and will maintain professionalism.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist in providing direction and leadership to establish program goals (short and long term), and anticipate future needs for the program that comply with the mission and vision of the University, department, and health care profession. Provide direction and oversight to ensure compliance with program accreditation and regulation requirements. Assist in the implementation and analysis of recommendations from the Advisory Committee. Assist in performing regularly scheduled review of program outcomes, program goals, and graduate competencies. Serve as departmental advocate by promoting program offerings and facilitating student recruitment. Recruit clinical/internship sites from applicable facilities and foster these professional collaboration/partnerships with professionals in the field. Maintain updated MOUs from each clinical/internship site. Assist with coordination training and instruction in various areas needed to achieve student learning objectives. Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees and attending community events.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Maintain high level of professionalism in presentation of self, behaviors, communications, and interactions with those around them.
- Maintain professional certifications required for Program Director.
- Provide direction and oversight to ensure compliance with program accreditation and regulation requirements.
- Lead faculty in the analysis and implementation of recommendations from the Advisory Committee.
- Perform regularly-scheduled review of program outcomes, program goals, and graduate competencies.
- Provide input in the preparation of program budget and manage department budget in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Recruit clinical sites from a variety of healthcare facilities and foster this professional collaboration and obtain qualified preceptors at each clinical healthcare facility.
- Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
- Provide quality instruction which is current, evidence-based, incorporates active problem-based learning modalities, and responsive to employer needs.
- Maintain currency of knowledge and skill in field of specialization and areas of instruction.
- Promote and maintain a positive learning environment that is conducive to student learning.
- Maintain appropriate record keeping for assigned classes
- Available to assist students outside of scheduled classroom time by scheduling and ensuring the required number of office hours per week, convenient to students.
- Provide direction and leadership to establish goals (short and long term), and anticipate future needs for the program that comply with the mission and vision of the College,
department, and health care profession.
- Serve as departmental advocate by promoting program offerings and facilitating student recruitment.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees and attending community events.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in OTA from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning; have at least three years of experience in the field or in teaching in the field; maintain Arkansas license to practice as an Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education; Four or more years of experience in Occupational Therapy; an Arkansas license to practice as an Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant); Have experience in leadership/supervision.
Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands:
The OTA program is housed in Morton Hall at 1700 West C Street, Russellville, AR 72801. Duty locations include but not limited to classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
This position is assigned a desk and computer in a location that may be in a different building other than classroom locations, so the position requires the ability to change locations and/or walk moderate distances during a normal day. Required activities include: teaching and lecturing, sitting/standing for extended periods, use of a keyboard and mouse, use of standard office equipment. Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods, and lift 25 pounds occasionally.
