Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to administer medically prescribed programs and treatments to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or impairment. Utilizes training and clinical skills to complete treatment plans established by a licensed therapist and participates in the development of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation plan of care where applicable. Supervision by a licensed therapist is completed in accordance with state practice acts. Under the daily direction of the Rehabilitation Services Coordinator, and in conjunction with the licensed therapists, coordinates and maintains a schedule which involves approximately 75% direct patient care activities. Patient care activities may include inpatient, outpatient, and home care services completed at a variety of contract sites.

Essential Job Functions Duties and Responsibilities

Therapy Functions

1. Plans, administers, and coordinates therapy programs for patients under the general supervision of a licensed therapist of the same discipline through the use of accepted treatment methods as described by recognized standards of practice, policies of the company and its agents, state practice acts and applicable reimbursement guidelines for rehabilitation, as prescribed by physicians to rehabilitate a person to his/her maximum functional ability.

2. Utilizes system established by the company for scheduling treatments, maintaining and communicating work schedules, preparing work assignments, maintaining and reporting productivity, and performing clinical supervision for support staff. Performs work in an efficient manner to meet productivity standards and to display equity of duties, patient care and other tasks, among members of the staff.

3. Displays behaviors which promote customer satisfaction and promotes positive work relationships with members of the staff and staff from facilities where services are provided.

4. Performs treatments under the general supervision of a licensed therapist of the same discipline, observing all policies for timeliness, and utilizes specific procedures, forms, and format for documentation and communication of information. Documents appropriate clinical information in an organized and legible manner, according to company policy and with demonstrated knowledge of applicable reimbursement guidelines.

5. Promotes a safe work culture through the use of safe work practices including automobile use and proper body mechanics. Represents safe work practices to coworkers to make safety awareness a requirement for each employee's satisfactory job performance.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and accept constructive criticism. Must be able to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public. Must be able to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and potentially hostile people within the facility. Must be able to speak, write and understand English in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication with supervisors, employees, residents, and families. Education and Experience Associates Degree Licensing/Certifications License as a physical therapy assistant in state where practice is required.
