Supervises daily staff activities for an assigned area or function.
Essential Functions\:
- Performs all aspects of EKG Testing by prepping the patient and placing the correct electrodes in the correct positions, connecting electrodes to the patient, enter correct information about patient, and operates the equipment for accurate results. Documents and delivers test results and bills according to the department policy.
- Remains current in CPR, ACLS, PALS and NRP.
- Establishes and Maintains airway during an emergency. Manually ventilates patients as necessary. Assist in transport and set up of ventilator dependent patients as needed. Assist other therapists, as needed.
- Performs arterial blood gas sampling via radial, brachial and femoral punctures. Performs capillary blood gas sampling as needed.
- Sets up and correctly document all forms of oxygen, humidity and aerosol therapy (nasal cannula, venture masks, NRB masks, aerosol tents and heated humidifiers) in accordance with policies and physician orders.
- Administers approved medication by means of HHN, MDI treatments. Performs other modalities of respiratory therapy procedures according to the approved policies and procedures of CPS and under the written order of a physician. Correctly completes all physician orders in accordance with accepted CPS protocol and documents all testing results and therapies completed.
- Cleans and maintains equipment to a level appropriated to use. Maintains a clean well organized work area.
- Assesses patients responses to therapy and correctly document results. Report adverse reactions to all therapeutic modalities to the nurse and physician, take appropriate action and document occurrences based on hospital policy.
- Set up monitors, correctly document use of pulse oximeter, apnea alarms and occurrences based on hospital policy.
- Recognize patients work of breathing, distress, ventilator deficiencies, diffusion difficulties, carry capacities abnormalities and tissue uptake problems and notifies physicians, nursing and correctly documents.
- Follow CPS Protocols.
- Performs NT, OT and tracheal suctioning according to procedure.
Minimum Education Bachelor’s degree Required Skills Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Certifications\: Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) Minimum Work Experience 3-5 years minimum work experience preferred
