Conduct hearing evaluations, determine the need for amplification and recommend educational intervention, including use of assistive listening devices and make other referrals as indicated. Assess hearing aids and/or assistive listening devices (FM system) settings with real-ear analysis and sound field aided testing. Additional responsibilities include obtaining calibration for audiometric equipment, establishing monitoring programs for assistive listening equipment in the deaf education and mainstream classrooms, general education hearing conservation programs and participating in IEP/504 teams.

SALARY: DOWNLOAD SALARY SCHEDULES Responsibilities
  1. Organize instructional programs within the prescribed curriculum to provide for individual differences.
  2. Establish and manage comprehensive hearing screening program and hearing conservation program districtwide.
  3. Establish and manage systematic referral process districtwide.
  4. Work as an effective member of the department to evaluate and improve the program.
  5. Communicate student progress to parents.
  6. Ensure proper maintenance of records as per district procedures:
    • Speak to interested organizations, agencies, and district personnel regarding various aspects of audiology and related in-service as needed.
    • Function as a team member for IEP and 504 plans.
  7. Work as an effective member of the grade level, staff, and community to evaluate and improve student learning.
  8. Conduct follow-up activities at the Audiology office for individuals preschool through 21 years of age including
    • Students failing the districtwide screening procedures.
    • Children referred for assessment through the child-find process.
    • Students with known hearing impairment.
  9. Other referrals as deemed appropriate.
  10. These activities shall include (as appropriate):
    • Administration of audiologic assessment battery (e.g.,Otoscopic evaluation, pure tone air and bone conduction testing, speech reception and word recognition testing, immittance measures, otoacoustic emissions testing and interpretation of special tests including electrophysiological measures, differential diagnosis of auditory disorders, and diagnosis of central auditory processing disorders).
    • Audiological assessment of individuals using procedures appropriate to their receptive and expressive language skills, cognitive abilities, and behavioral functioning levels.
    • Counseling parents and students regarding findings, making medical referrals as appropriate, and recommending remediation activities.
    • Provide written and verbal interpretation of auditory assessment results and their impact on the child's educational process, to the appropriate referral sources and district personnel.
    • Evaluation of the need for and selection of assistive listening devices (FM systems, loaner hearing aids, etc.), including the taking of earmold impressions and making earmold modifications as needed.
    • Implementation of hearing conservation program as part of overall screening program.
    • Develop and implement hearing aid orientation for new and previous hearing aid users as needed and appropriate.
    • Train, supervise, and coordinate the activities of the audiometric technicians in the administration of the districtwide hearing screening procedures.
    • Provide routine analysis of hearing aids (through the use of electroacoustical analysis and/or hearing aid check procedures),?and monitor proper fit of earmolds and aids.
    • Arrange for and ensure the proper calibration of audiometric equipment.
    • Be responsible for the proper operation of equipment utilized within and/or belonging to the audiology department including testing equipment and assistive listening devices.? This also includes in-services for school personnel using the equipment.
  11. Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the special education department and building administration.
Qualifications
  1. Qualifies for a Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations. If possessing an initial or provisional certificate, the candidate must hold the appropriate endorsement.
  2. M.S., M.A., or Au.D. degree in Audiology. ESA certification required.
  3. Must demonstrate awareness and knowledge of public law including the Americans with Disability Act, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act and applicable Washington Administrative Codes including 392-172-140 and WAC 392-172-106 through 392-172-111.
  4. Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral form.
  5. Flexible in learning new concepts, cooperates with others, and adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.
  6. Enthusiastic and displays an overall optimism toward teaching and student learning.
  7. Assesses needs of students and prescribes effective interventions to meet student's needs through the use of appropriate and current instructional skills.
  8. Gains the respect and confidence of students, parents, and staff through modeling appropriate demeanor, behavior, and attire.
  9. Sets and attains high level of expectations with a commitment to using available resources so that accomplishment and growth occurs.
  10. Develops favorable relationships with students; listens to, cares for, and works collaboratively with them.
  11. Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, different learning styles, and various disabilities.
  12. Demonstrates the ability to learn new ideas and skills and to solve problems; the possession of a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 is expected. (This requirement may be waived if an inadequate pool of fully qualified applicants for a specific position exists.)
  13. Aware of current educational developments and applications, works collaboratively with others; believes in the importance of education, and interested in the welfare of all students.
  14. Uses democratic processes to work out problems in a supportive and understanding nonauthoritarian manner.
  15. Integrates technology into planning, learning, and record-keeping activities.
  16. Knowledge of school systems, multi-disciplinary teams and community and professional resources helpful.
  17. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills and ability to cooperate with other collegial personnel.
  18. Experience as an audiologist within a public-school setting preferred.
