POSITION SUMMARY

The Occupational Therapist will work within an interdisciplinary team within the larger Mental Health Team. The Occupational Therapist will be working with children and youth presenting with severe and complex mental health issues.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• To provide an assessment of the child or youths daily functioning within the home, school and community environments
• To assess the patients abilities in the area of self-care, and explore both leisure and vocational strengths and needs to aid in the development of coping strategies
• To assess the child/youths self-regulation skills and provide programming to address the needs identified
• To assess the child/youths sensory profile and provide programming as required.
• To collaborate with team members on developing safety plans for the child/youth.
• To work with the child/youth on an individual basis and/or within a therapeutic group.
• To participate in monthly professional practice meetings.
• To actively participate as a team member within the outpatient and day treatment clinical teams in formulating individual recommendations post-discharge
• To participate in ongoing education and training to remain up-to-date on best practice.
• To participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
• Graduate from an accredited university program in Occupational Therapy (Essential)
• Registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (C.O.T.O.) (Essential)
• Minimum of 2 years experience as an Occupational Therapist (Essential)
• Related experience within a mental health setting (Preferred)
• Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in children and youth (Preferred)
• Experience and/or interest in clinical research (Essential)
• Communicate effectively, orally and in writing (Essential)
• Demonstrate excellence in interpersonal skills (Essential)
• Comfort level and skill in preparing and facilitating therapeutic groups (Essential)
• Fluency in English and French (Essential)

RESUME DES FONCTIONS

Lergotherapeute travaille au sein dune equipe interdisciplinaire dans les unites de psychiatrie pour les patients hospitalises du 6Est et du 6Nord. Il ou elle travaillera aupres denfants et dadolescents qui ont des troubles de sante mentale graves et complexes.

DESCRIPTION DU TRAVAIL

• Evaluer ladaptation de lenfant ou de ladolescent a la vie quotidienne de son foyer, de son ecole et de sa collectivite;
• Evaluer les capacites des patients en matiere dhygiene personnelle et examiner leurs atouts dans les domaines professionnels et recreatifs ainsi que leurs besoins daide pour elaborer des strategies dadaptation a la vie quotidienne;
• Organiser, planifier et animer des groupes au quotidien (p. ex. hygiene personnelle, zootherapie, hygiene du sommeil, equilibre occupationnel, etc.);
• Collaborer avec les membres de lequipe sur lelaboration de plans de securite pour les enfants et les adolescents;
• Travailler avec lenfant/ladolescent individuellement et/ou au sein dun groupe de therapie;
• Participer aux visites quotidiennes des patients avec lequipe interdisciplinaire de psychiatrie pour les patients hospitalises;
• Participer aux reunions de discipline professionnelle mensuelles;
• Participer activement a lelaboration de programmes pour le Programme interdisciplinaire de psychiatrie pour les patients hospitalises;
• Participer activement au travail de lequipe ou des equipes interdisciplinaires de soins psychiatriques pour les patients hospitalises en recommandant des traitements individuels a administrer apres le conge des patients;
• Participer a la formation continue afin de maintenir a jour ses connaissances des meilleures pratiques;
• Participer a la fois aux activites denseignement et de recherche clinique du Programme de psychiatrie pour les patients hospitalises selon les besoins;
• Participer a la supervision et a lenseignement des etudiants et du personnel de soutien;
• Participer aux initiatives damelioration continue de la qualite;
• Representer lErgotherapie et le Programme interdisciplinaire de psychiatrie pour les patients hospitalises au sein de comites.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Verification des antecedents en vue dun travail aupres de personnes vulnerables (Essentiel)
• Diplome dun programme dergotherapie dans une universite accreditee (Essentiel)
• Adhesion a lOrdre des ergotherapeutes de lOntario (C.O.T.O.) (Essentiel)
• Experience dau moins deux (2) ans a un poste dergotherapeute (Essentiel)
• Experience pertinente dans un milieu de soins de sante mentale (Preferable)
• Connaissance des troubles psychiatriques chez les enfants et les adolescents (Preferable)
• Experience de et/ou interet envers la recherche clinique (Essentiel)
• Communication efficace a loral et a lecrit (Essentiel)
• Excellents entregent et esprit dequipe (Essentiel)
