Responsibilities
- Works as part of a team of physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals to manage client care to achieve optimal respiratory status
- Completes an assessment of client’s respiratory needs based on referral
- Develops a treatment plan for Respiratory Therapy to include type, method and duration of therapy, precautions to be taken, and medication and dosages, as approved by the physician
- Develops and provides training to nursing staff on devices to improve respiratory health such as apnea monitors, suction machines, CPT vest, cough assist machines, portable suction, pulse oximeters, nebulizers, humidifiers, oxygen concentrators, e-tanks, nebulizers, and ventilators
- Monitor client's physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, oxygen saturation, and blood chemistry changes, and consult with RN, HCC, or DON if adverse reactions occur
- Assesses client's cardio-respiratory status on weekly basis
- Monitors administration of oxygen and medicated aerosol therapy to manage and control breathing related abnormalities
- Inspects, cleans, tests, and maintains respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently, ordering repairs to equipment when necessary
- Complete weekly inventory of respiratory supplies; maintain adequate number of supplies. Re-orders supplies as needed
- Available for on-call to address client respiratory emergencies
- Ensures a safe environment to prevent injury to clients and staff
- Completes evaluations and attends Habilitation Plans for clients receiving respiratory therapy
- Completes monthly progress notes and submits to the DON
- Completes progress notes on client respiratory treatments
- Reports to work during inclement weather to ensure client respiratory needs are addressed
- Completes all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Unrestricted registered or certified Respiratory Therapist required
- Associates degree required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Florida Driver’s License with no more than two moving violations in the past three years
- Able to work in the US and not require Visa Sponsorship from our company now or in the future
- Effectively communicate at all levels, write, and speak English using acceptable grammar, punctuation, and spelling, understand and follow multi-steps written and verbal instructions
- Use functional math, analyze, and assess data, and determine appropriate actions
- Organize and prioritize workflow to meet deadlines
- Work independently without constant supervision and complete work tasks to completion
- Gather and analyze information in crisis situations, and make immediate decisions
- Problem-solve and use good judgement when making decisions
- Conduct self in a professional and courteous manner
- Keep information confidential and refrain from gossip, set appropriate professional boundaries with all staff
- Proficiently use a computer and electronic medical records
