Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a full-time mental health counselor. This position provides direct, short-term counseling services to maximize student success, crisis intervention referral for students in need of professional counseling assistance and outreach programming regarding mental health, substance abuse prevention, sexual violence prevention and other wellness matters. This position is required to periodically work evenings and weekends including registration and the annual commencement.The following list is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all responsibilities, skills or working conditions associated with this position.

  • Provides short-term assessment, counseling and referral for students with mental health and wellness concerns (both in-person and virtually), including preparing case reports and making recommendations for further action and/or referral. Works with third party organizations to coordinate continued student care as needed
  • Develops, promotes and presents on current issues in mental health and wellness education and coordinates campus outreach/awareness efforts regarding mental health, substance abuse, sexual violence and other mental health and wellness matters
  • Assesses and intervenes in crisis and emergency situations to ensure that students gain immediate professional counseling assistance
  • Maintains referral relationships with local and community organizations providing mental health services, substance abuse prevention/care, sexual violence prevention and other wellness matters
  • Maintains student counseling records and manages, analyzes and presents data on counseling usage and impact
  • Consults with faculty and staff to identify student needs and to develop, provide and coordinate services for students
  • Provides academic advising and registration for students with counseling needs and participates in enrollment management and student services activities as needed and requested
  • As assigned, assists with major college-wide events and activities such as, but not limited to, commencement, orientation, registration, outreach events and retention initiatives
  • Contributes to the annual and five-year comprehensive department assessment process as per the college's assessment plan
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Master's degree in education, counseling, social work or a related field
  • Must be a licensed clinical psychologist, therapist, counselor or social worker
  • Three years of case management, counseling, mental health or social work experience
  • Excellent Microsoft Office and electronic database skills
  • Excellent organizational, human relations, attention to detail and verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work on sensitive, confidential and complicated issues with customer service to all students, visitors, and campus community both in-person and virtually
  • Strong ability to be creative and dynamic
  • Valid driver's license
  • Preference will be given to candidates with:
  • Experience in a college or university counseling setting
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate across divisions/departments
  • Experience using assessment and data as a part of decision making
  • Demonstrated success with programming and outreach related to mental health and wellness matters
  • Bilingual English/Creole

This is a full-time standard administrative position with excellent fringe benefits. Days and Hours of work are Mon. - Fri., 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (1 hour lunch). The starting salary depends on qualifications and experience, and will range from $66,400 to $81,500 for exceptionally qualified individuals.
