POSITION TITLE: Occupational Therapist
DEPARTMENT: Special Services Center
REPORTS TO: Site Administrator/Coordinator of Special Education & Director of Special Services
Job Goal:
Evaluates students to determine their functional levels and identify special needs. Plan and implement therapeutic activities to assist special education students to benefit from their educational experiences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs screening for possible fine motor deficits, as well as administer standardized assessments for students referred for an initial or re-evaluation evaluation under IDEA for related services regarding the possible need for occupational therapy.
- Writes a summary report of the assessment results and provides recommendations for interventions if the student is not eligible for services, or provides input in the creation of the IEP goals/objectives.
- Participates in IEP and/or 504 meetings to interpret results and progress monitoring with the parent and the school staff.
- Provides direct instruction, collaboration, monitoring, as well as supplemental aids/services for students with disabilities who have related services for occupational therapy.
- Coordinates and communicates information flow to appropriate services providers who may conduct integrated therapy sessions with students.
- Trains, supervises, and consults school personnel, as well as parents regarding therapeutic management of students. Provides formal and informal training.
- Consults with physicians, private therapists, and other medical personnel involved regarding the needs of the child with a disability. Obtains a release of confidential information signed by parents prior to discussing confidential information with outside agencies, physicians or private therapists.
- Maintains confidential records of OT services that include but are not limited to SOAP notes, IEP goals/objectives, progress reports, evaluation results, home/school program interventions, etc.
- Services include: self help, functional mobility, environmental adaptations/adaptive equipment, positioning, motor functions, sensory processing, prevocational/vocational skills.
- Assign and supervise caseload and responsibilities of the COTA.
- Documents services to eligible Medicaid children for reimbursement if district is eligible for Medicaid.
- Travels to various sites as assigned throughout the district providing OT services.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Length of Contract: One hundred eighty one (181) contract days.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Site Administrator in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policies and state law.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises students.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy. Certification by National Registration Exam.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Oklahoma license to practice OT.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to plan budgets and use the mathematical skills required to do so. Maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under the supervision of the position.
REASONABLE ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
