Occupational Summary: The Director of Clinical Education for Respiratory Care (DCE) must provide effective leadership in developing, conducting, and ongoing assessment of the clinical education program. These activities include: organization, development and administration of the clinical curriculum; planning for, acquisition of, and communication with, locations needed for development of evolving practice skills; ensuring that appropriate supervision/assessment of students is available at all clinical sites; and ongoing assessment of the overall effectiveness of the clinical training for all students. The DCE must work with the Respiratory Care Program Director to ensure that student clinical exposures are coordinated with their didactic and laboratory education. The DCE will assume other responsibilities within the program (administrative, teaching in the classroom, and the laboratory) or as determined by the program sponsor, when assigned . Faculty rank will be commensurate with qualifications. The Director of Clinical Education is a full-time faculty position and is eligible for tenure review. Work Performed: + The Director of Clinical Education shall be responsible for the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of clinical experiences for students enrolled in the respiratory care program. + The Director of Clinical Education shall participate in program planning and evaluation of instruction for all aspects of respiratory therapy in cooperation and collaboration with the Medical Director and the Program Director. + The Director of Clinical Education shall actively participate in the instruction of students. + The Director of Clinical Education must have frequent, regular, and consistent contact with students, clinical faculty, and clinical affiliates at all program locations. + The Director of Clinical Education shall ensure that the Medical Directors of the affiliated respiratory therapy departments provide adequate medical input in all phases of clinical education. + In consultation with the Program Director, the Director of Clinical Education shall: + Provide student advising regarding all aspects of the Respiratory Care Program, including student counseling. + Provide didactic, laboratory, and clinical course content, instruction, and instructors to meet student, university, and professional needs. + Advise the Medical Director and Advisory Committee regarding direction and operation of the program. + Seek support for program update, expansion, or other changes needed to better meet student, university, professional, credentialing, and accreditation standards and requirements. + Abide by Faculty Responsibilities as outlined in the Newman University Faculty Manual. + The Director of Clinical Education will: + Promote the respiratory program's mission and goals. + Demonstrate support of the university's mission in daily work performance and interactions with staff and students. + Maintain required student and faculty records. + Maintain required continuing education. + Provide input on the employment of faculty. + Other duties, as assigned. Required Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills/Training: + Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with valid credentials. + Licensed in the State of Kansas. + Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an academic institution accredited by an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education. + Recognized qualifications by training and experience in the management of respiratory diseases and in respiratory therapy procedures are required. + Have a minimum of four years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two years in clinical respiratory care. + Have a minimum of two years' experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students of such a program. + Have or will receive soon after employment CoARC Key Personnel Training Program certificate of completion. + Member of representative professional organizations. + Responsible, self-motivated with strong communication skills. + Legally authorized to work in the United States of America.
