POSITION SUMMARY:
Current opening: One full-time position (40 hours per week); on call required
Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Cardiopulmonary Services, and in compliance with Federal, State regulations, and Powell Valley Healthcare (PVHC) policy and procedure, the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Specialist will primarily coordinate and provide Cardiac rehabilitation and Pulmonary rehabilitation services. This position will also be responsible for performing Electrocardiograms (ECG), Cardiac Stress Testing, Holter Monitoring, and Event Monitoring when needed. As such, this position requires the candidate to function in the role of a staff Respiratory Therapist, when needed, including sharing in the on-call rotation responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Appropriately perform inpatient and outpatient electrocardiograms (ECG), Holter monitoring, cardiac stress testing, pulmonary function testing (PFT), six-minute walk testing (6MWT), tobacco cessation counseling, overnight oximetry, and home sleep testing as prescribed.
Instruct and monitor cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation patients during exercise sessions and provide patient education along with complete, timely, and accurate documentation to include monthly ITP reports.
Evaluate patient orders for cardiopulmonary services to ensure they meet necessary requirements prior to scheduling or providing treatment. Assist with answering phone calls, call-backs, scheduling outpatients, and obtaining prior authorizations for cardiopulmonary services when necessary. Coordinate, interview, and evaluate new cardiopulmonary rehab patients. Obtain all required documentation, input all necessary documents and data into patient's electronic medical record (EMR).
When assigned, perform routine daily respiratory therapy treatments as ordered by the physician and provide complete, timely, and accurate documentation.
Evaluate and treat cardiopulmonary patients and make recommendations to Physicians and Medical Director as appropriate.
When assigned, perform oxygen rounds to evaluate patients, oxygen saturation, liter flow, assure proper usage/equipment and provide complete, timely, and accurate documentation.
Maintain appropriate levels of equipment and supplies for the department.
When assigned, provide airway and ventilator management to emergency/critical care patients.
Disassemble, clean, disinfect, reassemble then bag and tag equipment as necessary.
Document and complete daily charges for patients receiving cardiopulmonary therapy, interventions, and rehabilitation services. Complete charting and corrections in a timely manner. Check email regularly and respond as appropriate.
During the assigned shift and when on-call, RT will respond to all calls for cardiopulmonary assistance, code blue, trauma level 1, code stroke, emergency and disaster calls received from the overhead paging system, in-person, or via phone.
Function as a staff Respiratory Therapist when needed, including shared on-call responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Associates degree or 2 year degree program
2 to 4 years of recent clinical experience
Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) who is RRT eligible with an active Wyoming license
BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP for Healthcare Provider.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Read, analyze and interpret clinical information
Respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients
Add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Perform respiratory therapy specific calculations as needed
Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
Modify care based on the developmental/functional age of the patient as well as that of the patient's ethnic background
Work independently and as part of a team
Maintain confidential patient health information (PHI)
Must have good customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:
Regularly lifting or move objects weighing 10 to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, walking, standing, and working with equipment.
Subject to inside and possibly outside weather conditions.
The employee is also subject to exposure to blood and body fluids, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, exposure to burns and radiant energy, exposure to explosives, exposure to toxic chemicals and biological agents.
Work may be performed in a very noisy place
