Job Summary
Position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the operating budget, as well as ensuring quality patient care, effective management of resources, appropriate staff competency, and regulatory compliance.A physical therapist practicing direct access will examine and evaluate a patient's current conditions which may result in identification of movement and mobility dysfunction. A physical therapist practicing direct access will not diagnose an illness or disease. If a medical diagnosis has already been established by a qualified healthcare practitioner, the physical therapist will take it into consideration during the evaluation process. Job Description
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in related field
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission, or
- Current License to practice Occupational Therapy by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners, or
- Current license to practice Speech/Language pathology by the State Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology for Texas and current certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
- Current Certification in Basic Life Support
A physical therapist practicing direct access:
Education: Doctoral degree along with a residency or fellowship program, OR Licensed therapist with 30 hours of continuing competence activities in differential diagnosis
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- Five (5) years' experience in designated rehab discipline
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience
Principal Accountabilities
- Supervises, manages, counsels, rewards, evaluates, hires, and terminates staff.
- Determines appropriate staffing needs, trains/orients new employees, and assesses competency levels.
- Maintains budget requirements including the evaluation and acquisition of equipment.
- Develops and implements new programs; refines existing programs.
- Conducts meetings to relay information to staff, identify problems, and discuss solutions.
- Develops/refines/implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.
- Interacts with other departments, directors, employees, physicians, outside agencies and organizations.
- Participates in marketing and promotion within the hospital, as well as within the community.
- Provides direct patient care as needed.
- Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty.
- Ensures safe care to patients adhering to policies, procedures, and standards, within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
