Starting at $47,167 (Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.)

SUMMARY

Participates in the screening, diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of speech impediments in the students of the district by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Conducts informal screening prior to formal testing, articulation and language, voice and fluency, for Kindergarten through ninth grade and all special education and Title I students.
  • Conducts formal testing prior to participation in program to identify specific deficits in articulation, language, fluency, voice, and hearing.
  • Utilizes testing and screening results as a criteria for developing appropriate Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), materials and strategies appropriate for the IEP, and maintaining records of students' progress consistent with students' objective.
  • Uses audiometer to aid in diagnoses.
  • Assists with State Screening.
  • Acts as a resource for the hearing conservation program.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with supportive staff about hearing disorders.
  • Screens students identified in previous years' screening.
  • Screens those students who fall into the critical area when screened by the school nurse to determine if medical attention is necessary.
  • Informs other staff members of the nature of special disorders and the referral process.
  • Maintains ongoing communication of the condition and needs of students who are placed in program.
  • Provides in services for teachers to acquire knowledge in the language areas of diagnostic materials, methods and materials for remediation, and ideas for classroom use.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Master's degree (M. A.) from a college or university and appropriate state certification.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of colleagues, staff, parents, students, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have Arizona Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Speech/Language Pathology.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
