Job Goals: Occupational therapists are responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of the occupational therapy program for students PreK-12 in the Amesbury Public Schools. This includes screening, evaluation, educational programming and therapeutic intervention for students identified with or suspected of having disabilities. Supervision: School Principal / Director of Student ServicesEssential Duties & Responsibilities: Evaluate and assess students referred for special education eligibility determination.Develop and implement effective programs of intervention for students with special education needs. Develop IEP goals, benchmarks and assessment methods to monitor a student's progress in the education area identified requiring intervention.Work collaboratively with all special education facilitators, principals and teachers to determine eligibility, need for level, and /or continuation of occupational therapy service.Carefully monitor student progress toward achievement of goals, and effectively communicate to the TEAM the need to continue, modify, or discontinue services Develop programs for efficiently delivering occupational therapy services and managing available resources. Keep thorough and confidential records for the individual students receiving occupational therapy. Consult with parents, classroom teachers, and other staff as needed. Participate at team meetings where students have been recommended for or are currently receiving occupational therapy services. Provide clinical supervision to Occupational Therapy Assistants(s) Possess excellent oral and written communication skills Review Independent Education Evaluations and outside evaluations to summarize and present at IEP Team meetings Maintain a daily schedule, which includes multiple sites, students/classrooms and other activities/duties. Lift, transfer, and position children and equipment as necessary to provide occupational therapy.Recommended Minimum QualificationsMassachusetts licensure Ability and desire to work with a diverse student population.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
