School-Based Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)Work Settings:Elementary SchoolsMiddle SchoolsHigh SchoolsLocation: San Diego County, CAPrimary Responsibilities:Assessment & Diagnosis:Evaluate students for speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.Use standardized tools and observational techniques to assess needs.Intervention & Therapy:Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).Provide direct therapy services for articulation, fluency, voice, receptive/expressive language, and social communication.Adapt therapy to developmental and educational levels.Collaboration:Work closely with teachers, special educators, psychologists, and parents.Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions.Documentation & Compliance:Maintain accurate records of evaluations, therapy sessions, and student progress.Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and California state education laws.Education & Advocacy:Educate staff and families on communication disorders and strategies.Advocate for students communication needs within the school environment.Age-Specific Focus:Elementary School:Emphasis on early intervention, phonological awareness, and foundational language skills.Support for literacy development and classroom participation.Middle School:Focus on language for learning, social communication, and executive functioning.Address pragmatic language and curriculum-based language demands.High School:Support transition planning, vocational communication skills, and academic language.Emphasis on independence and self-advocacy in communication.Qualifications:Masters degree in Speech-Language PathologyMust hold a valid California Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential or be eligible and willing to obtain it by July or AugustCredentialing assistance available for the right candidateExperience in school settings is a plus
