Under general supervision, the Oncology Massage Therapist uses a variety of evidence-based massage techniques to help alleviate pain and discomfort for cancer patients and general clients in a clinical setting. The position works closely with clinicians and staff members in Integrative Wellness as well as other services within the cancer program. In addition, the position is assigned to the Boutique and performs retail related functions as a member of the team.

Education

High School Diploma or GED required; Completion of accredited massage therapy program; Completion of both national and Maryland state certification exams; training in oncology massage

Experience

Three years' experience with at least one year of oncology massage experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Skillful in multiple massage techniques (Medical, Swedish, Neuromuscular, Reflexology)

Empathetic and compassionate with the ability to put patients and/or clients at ease

Ability to tailor treatments for patients with various medical conditions and comorbidities

Ability to assess and treat a diverse cancer population

Understands the complexities of cancer and its treatment side effects

Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary medical team

Recognizes the strengths and limitations of massage therapy as a complementary treatment modality

Skilled in appropriate draping practices

Ability to ensure a comfortable and relaxing environment for clients

Provide approved resources and educational materials to clients

Utilizes best practices in hand hygiene and disinfection practices

Professional communication with patients, clinicians, and other staff members

Ability to maintain patient confidentiality

Licensures, Certifications

Current Maryland State Massage Therapy License in good standing

Physical Requirements

Ability to stay alert and provide continuous massage for a 2-hour period

Ability to remain calm under pressure

Ability to lift 35 lbs.

Conditions of Employment

Maintain continuing education credits and responsibilities required for Maryland Massage Therapy License, as well as maintain oncology certification

Must adhere to all regulations and laws related to massage therapy

Provide continual up to date documentation of maintained Maryland licensed massage Therapist Certificate

Patient Population

Demonstrates competency in the delivery of care and applies the knowledge to meet age-specific needs if applicable.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Performs intake interviews with new clients to understand their medical history, especially related to cancer and its treatment

Ensures a comfortable and relaxing environment for patients and/or other clients

Designs and implements personalized massage therapy plans that accommodate the unique needs of cancer patients and general clients

Modifies traditional massage techniques to ensure the client's safety and comfort

Closely monitors client response to massage and adjusts the treatment as necessary

Enters detailed notes on client sessions in EPIC, including treatment plans and progress notes

Communicates effectively with other healthcare providers involved in the client's care to ensure a holistic approach

Prepares treatment room for patients/clients by adhering to strict sanitation and hygiene standards, ensuring a clean and safe therapy environment

Stays up to date with the latest research in oncology massage therapy and incorporates new knowledge into practice

Performs retail functions in the Boutique, including processing payments for massage services or merchandise, scheduling appointments, assisting customers, and other duties as assigned.

Pay Range

$21.27 - $36.00

Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
