Speech/Language Pathologist Qualifications: PEL with speech/language pathology endorsement Terms and Salary: Contract for 9 months. Salary per teacher's salary schedule Position Goal: Provides speech therapy for students identified as eligible for special education speech/language services. Such services may be provided to students on an individual or group basis. Roles and Responsibilities: Screens students for possible speech/language impairments upon initial entry to the school. Communicates results of the screening to students' parents. Evaluates and assesses student needs using approved testing instruments. Completes speech/language case-study evaluations to determine possible eligibility for speech therapy services. Confers with multidisciplinary participants (parents, administrators, school psychologist, social worker, teachers, and others) to develop individual educational programs. As a member of the IEP, completes all necessary paperwork in advance of the meeting, completes filing requirements, monitors implementation, and collaborates with team. Completes student's IEP and subsequent reports. Develops goals and objectives for individual students. Provides speech therapy for students in compliance with the provision noted on the IEP. Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other instructional materials according to individual needs of students. Participates in the early childhood screening process for students ages 3-5 years. Consults on an ongoing basis with other appropriate school personnel regarding an individual students' progress, concerns and communication needs and how to effectively promote student communication growth and independence. Develops, utilizes and trains appropriate staff in the use of augmentative communication devices and techniques as necessary for individual students. Instructs students in multi-modal forms of communication. Encourages students to participate in classroom learning experiences to ensure their comprehension of subject matter, development of social skills, and ability to communicate in situations encountered in daily living. Communicates with parents on a regular basis regarding the performance and progress of their child. Teaches parents how to participate in and enhance students' learning experiences including communication needs. Maintains cooperative, positive working relationships with parents, OCEC staff, school district personnel, and community service agencies. Creates and follows a weekly work schedule and provides a monthly copy to program coordinator. Completes and maintains all written documentation as requested by the Director or designee.
