Our Board-Certified Music Therapists assist West Music in meeting our mission of Encouraging people of all ages and abilities to: Play now. Play for life. They are responsible for developing and maintaining positive therapeutic and professional relationships within area communities and with a variety of populations. Our therapists provide music therapy services in accordance with the philosophy and standards of Music Therapy Clinical Practice. This Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC) position will work with individuals of all ages and backgrounds, using music creatively to help clients address social, emotional, communication, cognitive, and motor goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as business needs dictate:
Adheres to current scope of practice, code of ethics, and standards of practice set forth by CBMT and AMTA while professionally and effectively providing music therapy services for clients.
Travels daily (and rarely overnight) to provide music therapy services to clientele as part of conferences, demonstration, and/or exhibits.
Independently schedules music therapy clients.
Evaluates client capabilities and develops a treatment plan of musical interventions adapted to the needs, interests, abilities and medical history of clients. Facilitates music therapy services (both groups and individuals) and evaluates client's progress towards established goals.
Maintains clinical notes and records, and prepares reports of client's responses indicating the effectiveness of various interventions.
Coordinates with other disciplines (OT, PT, speech, chaplaincy, nursing, etc.) as necessary to accomplish overall therapeutic goals
Conducts recreational music programming such as music therapist led music lessons (on piano, guitar, drums, or voice), adaptive choirs, or other recreational music groups
Acts in an administrative capacity to support the needs of the Music Therapy Department.
Manages, maintains, and updates music resources (music library, instruments, session plans, etc.)
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university in the field of music therapy, or equivalent
Current MT-BC credentials/must be MT-BC at date of hire
Proficient music skills in voice, guitar, percussion, and piano
Strong verbal, written, and receptive communication skills
Ability to make independent judgments
Practical knowledge of music theory, music improvisation, adaptive music instruction, and be self-motivated in creating new methods of incorporating music as therapeutic experience for clients
Working knowledge of computers is required including but not limited to the application of Microsoft Office Suite
Valid driver's license and the ability to be insured as a driver of West Music vehicles
Desired Qualifications:
Preferred knowledge of current music making/recording software, music notation, and basic electronic media skills (tablet/PC) for use with clients
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. They must be able to perform typing and computer tasks required for this position with or without accommodation. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
