Schedule A: $21.36 (entry step)

Schedule B: $25.27 (entry step)

Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position.

Under the direction of a Student Services Instructional Coordinator, a School Site Administrator and a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), this position will provide a direct service to students eligible for speech and language services. Incumbent performs related work as required.

**MINIMUM/PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

**

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

1. Completion of sufficient course work and field experiences in a technical training program for speech-language pathology assistants from a licensed accredited education institution.

AND

1. Experience in pediatric therapy or the area of severe disabilities is desirable.

Knowledge of: Methods of interventions used by Speech-Language Pathologists; writing and interpreting an IEP; communication development; files and records management, office procedures, and basic computer literacy desired.

Skill at: Communicating effectively both orally and in writing; working effectively with students in classroom, small group, and individual sessions; effective behavior management strategies; relating to school personnel and parents in a cooperative manner; and following directions regarding Speech-Language Pathology assessments and interventions.

Licenses/Certificates: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant from the American Speech, Language, Hearing Association; CPR Certification required.

Physical Demands: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Work Environment: The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, residences, or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
