Instructor of the Practice or Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy

The Department of Health Care Diagnostics and Therapeutics at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah invites applications for either a full-time, professional-track Instructor of the Practice or full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor within our Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program, to begin Spring Semester or January 2026. The PTA Program exists to prepare students through comprehensive and quality educational experiences to become physical therapy care providers exhibiting integrity, skill, and caring who serve the community by responding to their rehabilitation healthcare needs.   • Conduct classroom and laboratory instruction, using evidence based andragogical methods, equivalent to 27 workload credits per academic year (for tenure-track) or 33 workload credits per year (for professional-track). Ability to teach one or more courses online and/or in a blended format.
  • Perform campus duties including holding office hours, advising students, attending faculty department and college meetings, and serving on college and department committees.
  • Provide regular institutional service as outlined in Regent and University policy (tenure-track only).
  • Adhere to program, department, college, and university policies, including compliance with OSHA standards for infection control and hazardous materials.
  • Responsible for assessing student progress in a classroom setting; assist with student recruitment, advisement, placement, and follow-up efforts.
  • Assist program coordinator in the continuing development and management of the existing program, including scheduling, budgeting, equipment, and other areas as needed.
  • Assist with coordinating, planning, reviewing, and evaluating all facets of didactic education, including creating and delivering curriculum and meeting requirements of program accreditation.
  • Assist in coordinating with local physical therapy personnel in partnership to ensure the PTA program meets the needs of UT students, local/regional physical therapy clinical education, and the needs of local/regional clinical educators and clinicians.
  • Initiate, facilitate, and maintain liaison with community Physical Therapy professionals, educational programs, and advisory committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair, Program Coordinator, and/or Dean.
    • For professional-track Instructor of the Practice: Bachelors degree in a related field and Associates degree in Physical Therapist Assistant required. Advanced degree preferred.
    • For tenure-track Assistant Professor: PTA plus Masters degree in a related field, or bachelors degree or higher in Physical Therapy required; DPT preferred.
    • Current license to practice as a Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant in any United States jurisdiction required.
    • Preference to those with experience in physical therapy education.
    • Minimum of three years (or equivalent) post-licensure clinical practice, and two years of experience in teaching, curriculum development, and/or administration in a PT or PTA program required.
    • Demonstrated ability in successful teaching; be technology literate and/or willing to become certified in online instruction and teach one or more courses online and/or in a blended format. Finalists will be required to demonstrate competence through a teaching demonstration.
    • Demonstrated ability to provide proactive educational leadership; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong commitment to work collaboratively with community health care providers.
    • Commitment to academic excellence and exceptional services, with proven effectiveness in allocating and managing resources, utilizing computer-related technologies to enhance education methodology, and proficiency in curriculum design, instruction, student guidance, and academic counseling.

    POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (10-month) tenure-track or professional-track faculty position. Faculty service begins January, 2026, with pay and benefits starting January, 2026. Annual salary of $66,000-$70,000 for Instructor of the Practice (professional-track) and $75,000-$79,000 for Assistant Professor (tenure-track), with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
