Job Summary

Position is responsible for providing Respiratory Care students with opportunities to mentor with a Licensed Respiratory Therapist in a professional setting to provide care to patients related to and in support of building clinical competency and confidence. This position will provide the clinical Respiratory Care student exposure to skill sand knowledge necessary to transition from clinical student role to new graduate respiratory therapist.

This position is accountable and responsible for respiratory care administered under the direction of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist and in accordance with therapy guidelines, applicable regulations, and departmental policy, procedures and practices. Job Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy or recent graduate (within 120 days) of accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Must provide proof of enrollment each semester or program completion.

  • Verify academic standing by submission of unofficial school transcript

Licenses/Certifications:

  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Certification

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Ability to understand written instructions and perform basic mathematical calculations, demonstrates skills for assigned specialty area/function or assigned procedures.

  • Strong communication skills and critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to perform duties requiring prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending and lifting.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES :

  • Maintains enrollment in an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy or recent graduate (within 120 days) of accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Must provide proof of enrollment each semester or program completion.

  • Under the supervision of the licensed Respiratory Therapist, performs indirect and direct patient care in a competent manner and performs tasks as assigned by the Respiratory Therapist in accordance with the students training and capabilities and validated competency.

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.

  • Collaborates with all members of the inter-professional health care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patient care information and data in a comprehensive manner.

  • Ensures safe care to patients adhering to policies, procedures, and standards, within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.

  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization.

  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermanns service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
