Cardiopulmonary Rehab Technician

The Cardiopulmonary Rehab Technician, under the direction of the Cardiac and/or Pulmonary Rehab Coordinator, provides assessment, treatment and education to cardiopulmonary patients and their families during rehabilitation. The Cardiopulmonary Rehab Technician is responsible for assisting with the monitoring and operation of the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehab Program at GCGH. The Cardiopulmonary Rehab Technician is responsible for developing, in collaboration with the Cardiac Rehab Coordinator, Pulmonary Rehab Coordinator and Physician, an individualized exercise/rehabilitation program for the client. This includes client instruction for safe exercise, supervision of client exercise appointments, evaluation of client responses to exercise and providing education for risk factor modification to incorporate healthier choices into their lifestyle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs physical assessment/data collection through observation, palpation, and auscultation, as appropriate, accurately collects data regarding safety level of client’s physical, social, mental status, cultural and spiritual needs, as appropriate for client.
  • Documents patient treatment according to professional and regulatory standards.
  • Performs individual treatment plans, admissions, and discharges under the supervision of the Cardiac Rehab Coordinator and/or Pulmonary Rehab Coordinator.
  • Evaluates patient’s functional abilities and limitations to determine appropriate intervention under the supervision of the Cardiac Rehab Coordinator and/or Pulmonary Rehab Coordinator.
  • Performs Six-Minute Walk test with the Cardiac Rehab Coordinator and/or Pulmonary Rehab Coordinator.
  • Ability to lead and instruct Cardiopulmonary Rehab in the absence of the Cardiac Rehab Coordinator and/or Pulmonary Rehab Coordinator.
  • Contributes to department’s success by participation in improving processes and actively participating in processes to promote American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Greene County General Hospital.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Completes annual education requirements, quarterly education requirements and HealthStream assignments in a timely manner.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates clear ownership of workplace and patient safety.
  • Reports mistakes, near misses, adverse events and quality and safety concerns.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of safety and quality improvement activities.
  • Stays abreast of industry matters by reading/attending educational presentations.
  • Attends annual review and departmental in-services, as appropriate.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Job Qualification Requirements:

Education : High School Diploma/GED required. Associates degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science or related field preferred. Advanced EKG course preferred.

Licensure/Certification: BLS certification required within one month of hire and ACLS certification required within 3 months of hire.

Experience: Three or more years of patient care experience in all aspects of cardiopulmonary services preferred. Ability to operate telemetry equipment, EKG machine, oximeter, phones and fax machine. Strong written and verbal skills. Requires the ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare providers.

Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, walking frequently. Ability to lift 20 lbs. frequently. Ability to bend, lean and stoop without hindrance. Must possess fine motor skills and visual acuity. Normal range of vision and hearing required.
