PT Hospice Music Therapist

Coastal Hospice invites you to join a team of caregivers who are committed to promoting dignity and quality of life for patients and families who face life-limiting conditions. In your role as part-time Music Therapist, you will work approximately two days per week and will:

• Follow appropriate standards of practice as set forth by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT), and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO)
• Provide music therapy to patients and families in accordance with the plan of care
• Educate hospice staff members and the community on the appropriate use of the music therapy program and encourages referrals from all clinical staff and volunteers
• Use music therapy to address a variety of medical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, and social needs of patients and families in an age-appropriate manner
• Use music that is consistent with patient and family cultures, religions, and values
• Demonstrate knowledge of music therapy research
• Incorporate knowledge of unique issues related to death and dying, grief and loss
• Demonstrate good communication skills and ability to facilitate communication among patients and families
• Participate in Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings and contributes the music therapist’s perspective of the clinical needs of patients and families while educating team members about the use of music therapy in meeting care plan needs
• Participate in bereavement activities
• Complete required in-service trainings
• Enter all clinical documentation in accordance with established policy

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

• Graduate from an approved school of music therapy
• Has knowledge of a variety of musical genres and styles
• Has ability to recognize patient and family strengths and weaknesses as well as their support systems
• Maintains Board Certification by the CBMT and complies with continuing music therapy education requirements
