Position Summary
The Psychotherapist works with residents from St. John's Residence for Boys and their families to help them cope with a range of psychiatric, psychological and emotional disturbances. The Psychotherapist uses individualized treatment plans and a variety of evidence-based and evidenced-informed treatment models to address thought processes, feelings and behavior, understanding inner conflicts, and to find new ways to manage and alleviate distress.
This position focuses on providing treatment to youth enrolled at St. John's Residence for Boys. Youth involved in the juvenile justice system will be provided services in a Limited Secure Placement (LSP) located on Carroll Street Brooklyn. In addition, this position may be called on to support youth enrolled in Little Flower's Enhanced Family Foster Care (EFFC) program or from other foster care agencies.
Position Responsibilities:
- Utilizes evidence-based models (e.g. TF-CBT, CBT+).
- Participates in evidence-based practice trainings and consultation calls as needed.
- Conducts formal assessments to determine youth functioning and documents findings.
- Develops treatment plans and provides regular updates.
- Based on clinical needs, provides individual, group, and family therapy with youth and family on a weekly basis, to assess need, explore issues and build trust.
- Encourages youth to communicate and explore their feelings and behavior and what changes can be made.
- Evaluates treatment outcomes and documents progress or barriers as necessary.
- Collaborates with other disciplines and stakeholders to develop plans for therapeutic interventions.
- When appropriate, participates in treatment team meetings (i.e., Adoption, Red Flag, school meetings, etc.) to provide clinical updates and insight into youth's needs and functioning.
Qualifications:
- LCSW/LMHC/LMSW (clinical hours available)
- Experience with evidence-based models (e.g. TF-CBT, CBT+) preferred.
- At least two years of experience with youth and families is preferred.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with supervisors, workers, clerical staff as well as with youth and families.
- Ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Ability to prepare clear, accurate and comprehensive case reports.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
