Job Summary

The person in this position assists a credentialed Speech and Language Pathologist in supplementing, enhancing, and extending speech/language therapy services for students identified as having specials needs in the area of speech and language communication, such as developing pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, articulation and training and use of augmentative and alternative communication devices and technology. A Speech-Language Pathology Assistant participates and collaborates as a member of an education team by assisting in providing student speech therapy services to special needs students in accordance with the mandates of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. An incumbent works under the guidance and direction of a credentialed Speech and Language Pathologist in developing and providing services for individual students to improve their academic performance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Associate's degree in speech-language pathology assistant program or a Bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology disorders, communication disorders, or related field. At least one year of experience in speech/language or special education related areas is highly desirable. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Valid certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant through the state of California. Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California Driver License and proof of insurance. Willing to travel throughout the District and to workshops or training sessions.
