Wage Range: $40.82 - $65.33 per hour. The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role. Job offers are determined based on a candidate's years of relevant experience, applicable education and internal equity.

JOB SUMMARY of ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Adheres to all hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospitals Health & Healing principles. Provides speech-language pathology services by a licensed professional under a physician's prescription to patients in need of treatment in the areas of Speech, Language, Cognitive and Swallowing disorders in an Inpatient Adult/Geriatric setting. Provides patient education to both patients and family members. A SLP will work with the inpatient interdisciplinary team to provide appropriate treatment plans, as well as assist with discharge planning . Finally, the SLP will also be responsible for all paperwork requirements and to ensure proper billing of services rendered.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

Graduate of an accredited Masters level speech-language pathology school with current licensure to practice in the State of Washington, no CFY applicants. ASHA certification required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Ability to use skills acquired through education and experience to a diverse caseload of patients and age range, including pediatrics through geriatrics. Possesses an understanding of computer usage as it relates to report writing and documentation

Use of personal protective equipment as appropriate, documentation of immunization/immunity, and training related to blood borne pathogens is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS: Adheres to all state and federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials and BBP. Occasional exposure to communicable disease and hazardous substances

WORK CONTACT GROUP: Patients, families, co-workers, all other hospital departments (including nursing staff), and physicians

SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Highly clear and audible with voice

SUPERVISED BY: Rehabilitation Services Manager

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TECHNICAL

- Selects and adapts assessment methods according to individual patient needs

- Interviews patients, family members, and others to obtain relevant information which may affect the treatment plan-of-care

- Administers interviews and tests according to standardized techniques

- Assesses speech and language skills as they relate to educational, medical, social and psychological factors

- Prepares written evaluation for patients chart after initial evaluation, including a written plan-of-care as well as documentation of patients stated goals

- Regularly re-assesses patient condition throughout treatment

- Plans and implements individualized patient treatment programs, defining short- and long-term goals which are both measurable and functional; monitors progress and treatment to modify therapeutic goals

- Selects treatment environments and activities according to individualized patient needs

- Provides counseling and guidance to patients and family. Acts as a resource for other services which might assist the patient and/or family

- Provides education, feedback and counseling to the patient and family about the patients speech/swallow disorder and progress in treatment

- Follows all safety precautions set forth by Rehab Department. Communicates immediately to department manager any safety incident or potential safety incident

- Works with the inpatient interdisciplinary team to provide care planning and discharge planning assistance

- Provides individualized written home and supplemental programs as needed

- Adheres to all Medicare documentation provisions. Completes necessary paperwork to comply with standards and ensure proper coding and billing

- Maintains appropriate ethical standards

- Documents treatment provided and patients response and progress in patients chart

- Records patient charges on day of treatment and turns charges in to HUC staff
