Position Summary\:

Sovah Health is looking for someone who will under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, provides physical therapy services to patients needing to develop, recover and maintain physical mobility/function.

· Reviews initial physical therapy evaluation and assessment of patient prior to provision of services.

· Implements treatment goals and plans in accordance with the diagnosis and prognosis, with a treatment program established to aim at preventing or reducing disability or pain or restoring lost function.

· Provides therapeutic interventions that focus on posture, locomotion, strength, endurance, cardiopulmonary function, balance, coordination, joint mobility, flexibility, pain, and functional abilities in activities of daily living.

· Applies therapeutic modalities that include but are not limited to heat, cold, light, air, water, sound, electricity, massage, mobilization, and therapeutic exercise with or without assistive devices.

· Assesses and trains in locomotion, including as appropriate, the use of orthotic, prosthetic, or assistive devices.

· Monitors patient's responses to the treatment plan, i.e., the extent that goals have been met including improvement in function and the degree to which pain associated with movement is reduced.

· Regularly communicates patient progress and possible goal revisions to the physical therapist.

· Documents services provided and patient response/progress.

· Educates the patient and family/caregiver about patient deficits.

· Assists with patient discharge planning; provides case management of physical therapy patients so that therapeutic goals are met and required documentation is completed in a timely manner.

· Provides information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and community support programs.

Minimum Qualifications\:

Minimum Education

Associate’s degree required

Graduate of a Program in Physical Therapy required

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Required Skills

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Certifications

\:Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association required

Licenses\:

Licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine to practice as a Physical Therapist Assistant required

Minimum Work Experience

Minimum of one (1) year of experience as staff physical therapist assistant preferred
