Goal:

Kent City Community Schools is seeking a qualified, compassionate, and student-centered Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our team. The OT will play a crucial role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of students by addressing their unique needs related to movement, function, and sensory processing. Working within the educational setting, the OT will collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and other professionals to create inclusive environments where all students can thrive.

What You Need:

Assess children with developmental concerns in areas that include self-help, functional mobility, environmental adaptations/adaptive equipment, positioning, motor functions, sensory processing, and pre-vocational/vocational skills.

Consult with staff and provide early intervening services through multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) within local schools.

Collaborate with parents and school staff to implement evidence-based strategies to support students' daily activities.

Participate regularly on teams to resolve problems and analyze student- and building-level data.

Serve on multidisciplinary evaluation teams to complete evaluations to identify whether students are eligible for special education services.

Design individualized therapy programs for each IDEA-eligible student in the least restrictive environment based on a comprehensive evaluation.

Provide training to the appropriate persons to ensure transfer and generalization of therapy goals across multiple settings (e.g. school, home, etc.).

Complete IEPs and other required paperwork in accordance with timelines.

Maintain records and complete billing activities associated with Medicaid School-Based Services.

Regularly document and monitor student progress toward therapy goals and objectives.

Assist in proper referrals of students to agencies and specialists within the community.

Evaluate students' functioning for adaptive technology and recommend adaptive equipment.

Participate in regular professional learning opportunities to stay abreast of current research-based practices within the field.

Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive educational atmosphere.

Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.

Ability to organize and coordinate work.

Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and/or other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Education:

Master's degree from an approved occupational therapy program.

Occupational Therapy License from Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).

Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and MTSS processes.

Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Experience in a school setting is preferred but not required.
