Job Responsibilities:
The Occupational Therapist plans and administers treatment programs for students who are recommended for such treatment by the Committee on Special Education and in accordance with a physician's referral. The Occupational Therapist works under the direct supervision of the Supervisor for Special Education Programs.
Specific Duties:
1. Evaluates physical, psycho-social and perceptual dysfunction of referred students.
2. Plans, administers, and supervises treatment procedures.
3. Develops assistive devices and self-help techniques.
4. Coordinates occupational therapy with other student services concerned with restoration and maintenance of the student's optimum level of ability.
5. Keeps accurate records of treatment and makes written reports on the student's progress for the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
6. Consults with classroom teacher regarding specific needs.
7. Supervises Certified Occupational Therapists as assigned.
8. Maintains OT equipment.
9. Maintains and completes departmental paperwork.
10. Other related duties as directed by the Special Education Supervisor.

Job Qualifications
Minimum Civil Service Qualifications:
Must hold permanent status as an Occupational Therapist; or; Must be reachable on the current Occupational Therapist Civil Service list; or; Must meet minimum qualifications for provisional appointment as follows:
A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college with a major in Occupational Therapy, or;
B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college with a bachelors degree in any field and completion of an approved post-graduate program in Occupational Therapy
REQUIRED: Registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association and licensed by the NYS required
Additional Qualifications:
Must have received a canvass letter from Erie 1 BOCES for OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST # 42-105.
Must hold valid NYS Occupational Therapist License
Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy preferred
Well versed in all areas of occupational therapy with familiarity in working with a variety of school aged students with special needs.
Must be able to develop and implement occupational therapy sessions, maintain documentation, progress notes, IEP paperwork and evaluations.
