Summary:
Capital School District is seeking a dedicated and experienced BCBA Coordinator to leave and support district-wide efforts in improving behavioral and communication outcomes for students with
disabilities. Grounded in the understanding that all behavior is a form of communication, this position centers on building adult capacity to interpret student needs and design appropriate data-driven
interventions. The specialist will coach staff pursing RBT and BCBA certification, guide Behavior Services Liaisions in collecting and analyzing behavior data, and support the creation and implementation
of high-quality Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) to ensure students receive the services they need to thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
Staff Development and Coaching
Coach and support staff working toward RBT and BCBA certification
Provide professional development focused on ethical, research-based behavior and communication practices
Model the use of strategies that interpret behavior through a communicative lens and promote positive student outcomes
Behavior & Communication Services Support
Mentor Behavior Services Liaisons on behavior data collection, analysis, and progress monitoring
Support the development, implementation and fidelity checks of individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
Help teams design proactive, responsive strategies that reflect each student's communication style and needs
Program Development & Compliance
Ensure district practices comply with IDEA, Section 504, and other relevant regulations
Collaborate with school teams during Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), IEP meetings and manifestation determinations
Champion district-wide systems that prioritize inclusive, communicative responses to student behavior
Student Support
Provide consultative and direct support for students with a broad range of abilities, communications needs and behavioral profiles (PK-22)
Guide teams in recognizing and responding to behavior a communication, with an emphasis on skill-building and student dignity
Support the creation of environments that nurture communication, regulation and independence.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Psychology, Communication Science or other closely related field.
BCBA Board Certification (BCBA), in good standing within registry (required)
Minimum of 5 years of experience in public educational settings supporting behavioral and communication needs
Deep understanding of special education law and ethical behavior support practices
Proven ability to collaborate and coach multidisciplinary teams
Experience working with students across the PK-22 age range
Preferred Skills:
Experience supervising or mentoring RBT or BCBA candidates
Training or experience in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and/or functional communication training (FCT)
Expertise in developing and scaling systems of support for behavior and communication across multiple schools
Bilingual or experience support multilingual learners is a plus
