The primary responsibility of the occupation therapist is to facilitate the development and rehabilitation of patients with physical disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed occupational therapy. RequirementsEssential Duties:
- Meets the patient's goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining occupational therapy treatment plans.
- Evaluates results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating patient's progress; recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.
- Plan home program for each patient, based upon interpretation of evaluation results; and instruct patient, family, and treatment team members as necessary.
- Develop realistic goals with patient input; explain treatment plan and goals to patient.
- Implement treatment or supervise treatment provided by Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, or occupational therapy student and aides. Delegate routine care to supportive personnel as appropriate.
- Terminate occupational therapy services when patient has attained maximum benefit from occupational therapy.
- Fabricate low temperature thermoplastic splint and instruct patient in wear and care of splint.
- Instructs patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment or splints.
- Communicate effectively with physician, other members of rehabilitation team and others as indicated regarding treatment plan and patient response to plan.
- Complete all required documentation of patient care services by charting in patient EMR thoroughly and in a timely manner.
- Provides wound management/care as needed and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal and certification requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
Requirements:
- Education: Masters or Doctorate degree in occupational therapy from accredited program; successful completion of clinical internship. Certification in Hand therapy (strongly preferred)
- Experience: Three to Five (5) years of practical occupational therapy experience with a preference in orthopedics and sports medicine; AND applicable management experience; OR any combination of training and experience.
- Other Requirements: Current Colorado occupational therapist license required. Current CPR certificate required
Performance Requirements:
- Knowledge of Basic science (biology, chemistry, physics), medical practice policies/procedures, regulations, examination techniques, therapeutic procedures.
- Knowledge of patient evaluation and treatment, handling physical therapy equipment, equipment maintenance.
- Effective interpersonal communication for patient education, compassion and patient care, data analysis for treatment modification
- Assistive and adaptive devices (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers), physical therapy equipment (e.g., ultrasound, traction), EMR documentation on a workstation.
- Walking, sitting, standing, bending, lifting, lifting objects over 50 pounds, pushing wheelchairs, supporting patients, constant alertness for patient safety.
