Summary:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) supports the implementation of occupational therapy services for students under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT). The COTA helps students develop the skills necessary for academic success and independence within the school environment. This includes assisting with fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-care, and access to the educational curriculum.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Associate's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Current certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) by the NBCOT.
- Valid state license or certification as required by Indiana Department of Education.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Experience working with children, preferably in a school or pediatric setting.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of special education laws and the IEP process.
- Experience with assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement occupational therapy treatment plans as developed by the supervising OT.
- Provide direct and indirect services to students in individual and group settings.
- Assist in data collection, documentation of student progress, and preparation of therapy materials.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to support student needs and goals.
- Adapt and modify classroom materials and activities to meet student needs.
- Monitor and maintain therapy equipment and supplies.
- Maintain accurate and timely records in compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
- Participate in IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings as requested by the supervising OT.
- Support a safe and positive learning environment for all students.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
