Job DescriptionGeneral Purpose of Job :
Evaluates and treats speech and language pathologies in an impatient and \ or outpatient setting providing professional speech language pathology services for the care and treatment of patients. The SLP evaluates and administers treatments to patients experiencing speech/language, language-based cognition, and/or swallowing difficulties to maximize patients communication and/or swallowing abilities. The SLP promotes the health and well-being of the people we serve.
Essential Duties :
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Completes initial speech therapy evaluation and develops a treatment plan of care for assigned patients.
- Provides Speech therapy treatment after analyzing patient information to determine the needs and problems appropriate for speech and language pathologies.
- Documents patient treatments, initial evaluation, progress notes and discharge summaries in a timely manner in accordance with hospital policies and insurance requirements.
- Performs speech therapy re-evaluations to assess patient progress; recommends changes to the treatment plan of care as appropriate.
- Prepares and adapts instructional material and therapy aids.
- Assists in scheduling patient treatments\appointments along with referring patients to other hospital services.
- Attends staff meetings and in-service programs as required.
- Communicates regularly with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, patient families, insurance companies and other regarding patients treatment and progress.
- Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values and customer service initiatives. Adheres to organizations policies and procedures, and compliance guidelines.
- Lead or direct the activities of Rehab Aides, students and volunteers. Ensuring that department policies and procedures are upheld and that quality patient care is provided.
- Participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement activities within department, health system and/or community.
- Compliance with Infection Control Standards, including Standard/Universal Precautions, Hand Hygiene and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Assist in maintaining therapy equipment and cleaning treatment areas; orders supplies as necessary to ensure environmental safety.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
