Assistant, Physical Therapist

Overview

Assist in the performance of physical therapy treatment procedures and related duties under the supervision and direction of a licensed physical therapist.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the assessment of physical therapy treatment.
  • Document patient care and progress to include keeping records and statistics.
  • Assist in educating patients about their care and treatment.
  • Assist the Physical Therapist in the clinical instruction of physical therapy assistant students.
  • Care of environment and equipment, review inventory and the working condition of equipment.
  • Attending meetings and in-service programs.
  • Comply with department and regulatory standards and policies.
  • Recommend changes in procedures as appropriate.
  • All other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate’s Degree from an APTA accredited physical therapist assistant program.

Experience:

  • May be new graduate but some experience in physical therapy programs helpful and preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.

Licenses, Certifications:

  • New York State Certification as Physical Therapist Assistant and current NYS Registration.

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
  • Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to position and partially lift patients is required.
