Manages the operations of the Respiratory Care Department. Provides direction and assistance to subordinate staff in both clinical and supervisory roles. Evaluates the scope of service to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and consistency with current professional standards. Develops and evaluates policies, procedures, and clinical practice guidelines. Implements and monitors quality assurance and performance improvement programs to ensure compliance, track progress, and enhance clinical practice. Oversees orientation and training programs that promote safe, high-quality clinical care and support ongoing staff development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversees the clinical and departmental operations of the Respiratory Care Department, ensuring the delivery of safe and optimal patient care.
- Evaluates the scope of service and practice; maintains policies and procedures, safety and infection control plans, clinical practice guidelines, and education and quality improvement programs in accordance with regulatory standards and current professional norms.
- Provides clinical direction and assistance to subordinate staff in the administration of respiratory therapy and serves as a consultant to medical and surgical providers.
- Implements and monitors quality assurance and performance improvement programs to ensure compliance, measure progress, and enhance clinical practices.
- Ensures orientation and training programs promote safe and quality clinical practice and support ongoing learning and staff development.
- Manages employees within the department, with the ability to persuade and negotiate with peer-level department heads and/or external agencies or facilities on issues that impact departmental operations.
- Oversees human resource functions in accordance with department standards and hospital personnel policies.
- Serves as the department representative on various hospital-wide committees and working groups.
Education:
- Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy and Bachelors Degree in a complementary field, or
- Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Therapy required
- Masters Degree preferred
- Minimum of 56 years of related experience, including at least 3 years in a pediatric specialty
- 12 years of supervisory experience required
- Completion of ECMO training with 12 years of ECMO experience required
- Current Massachusetts license as a Respiratory Therapist
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care
- Neonatal-Pediatric Specialist (NPS) credential by the National Board for Respiratory Care
