The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Michigan School of Medicine is currently seeking applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor in the Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Surgery division. The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in Rehabilitation Sciences and a Master's degree (M.A. or M.S.) in Speech-Language Pathology, with current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the State of Michigan. We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual with a strong background in clinical research, particularly as it relates to the assessment and rehabilitation of speech, voice, and swallowing impairments following treatment for head and neck cancer. In addition to maintaining an active clinical practice at 80% effort, the successful candidate will be expected to actively engage in clinical research initiatives within the department (~20% research effort), contribute to ongoing and new research projects, and demonstrate a commitment to advancing evidence-based practice in head and neck cancer rehabilitation.

At Michigan Medicine, speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work in direct tandem with the surgeons targeting pre-operative diagnostics, post-operative diagnostics and rehabilitation to help restore and improve speech, voice and swallowing following head and neck cancer. In addition to clinical care, SLPs are also committed to teaching and engagement in a variety of clinical research studies.

This position will report and be appointed to the Department of Otolaryngology, with a dual reporting relationship to University of Michigan-Health- Speech Language Pathology leadership, which will provide oversight of clinical practice and fund via Ambulatory Care the clinical effort associated with the role.

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Sciences Master's degree (M.A. or M.S.) in Speech-Language Pathology with current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the State of Michigan. The candidate must have extensive experience in the delivery of speech language pathology services to patients in the context of a head and neck cancer clinical program. The candidate must have experience in conducting research relevant for head and neck cancer. ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence awarded by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), or eligibility to initiate a Clinical Fellowship, is required.
