POSITION SUMMARY:

The Physical Therapist Assistant Director of Clinical Education (DCE) serves as the primary liaison between the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program and the clinical education community. The DCE provides academic and administrative leadership for all aspects of clinical education, ensuring quality clinical placements that support student learning outcomes and meet accreditation standards. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, facilitating, administering, and monitoring the clinical education portion of the PTA program in compliance with CAPTE (Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education) and institutional standards.

The DCE collaborates with clinical partners, faculty, and students to ensure appropriate clinical experiences and oversees student performance, progression, and remediation in clinical environments. This individual plays a central role in program assessment and accreditation activities, participates in curriculum planning, and supports the overall mission and strategic goals of Quincy College and the PTA Program.

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE:

DPT preferred, MSPT or a Master's degree with an Associates degree in Physical Therapy Assistant

Valid licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT) or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in Massachusetts is required.

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in physical therapy required;

Minimum of two (2) years of teaching or clinical education coordination experience preferred;

Knowledge of contemporary clinical practice and healthcare delivery systems;

Experience with CAPTE accreditation standards and assessment preferred;

Experience with curriculum development and the use of instructional technology is highly desirable.

Experience with use of the CPI.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversight of clinical instructors in coordination with site clinical coordinators; supervision and assessment of student clinical education experiences.

TRAVEL:

Regular travel required between Quincy College campuses and clinical sites throughout the region.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop, maintain, and assess clinical education partnerships that support program goals and student learning outcomes;
  • Coordinate clinical education experiences and student placements in collaboration with academic and clinical faculty;
  • Ensure clinical site contracts are current and compliant with program, state, and CAPTE requirements;
  • Monitor and evaluate student performance during clinical experiences and initiate remediation plans as needed;
  • Support clinical instructors and provide training/resources for effective clinical teaching and assessment;
  • Maintain and update the clinical education database, including site availability, instructor credentials, and student evaluations;
  • Coordinates and teaches clinical education courses and other related courses based on program needs, and areas of content and clinical expertise.
  • Participate in programmatic and institutional accreditation processes, including the preparation of self-studies and reports;
  • Collaborate in curriculum development, revision, and program planning to ensure integration of clinical education with academic instruction;
  • Attend department, division, advisory board, and other relevant college or professional meetings;
  • Contribute to faculty governance, serve on college committees, and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts;
  • Demonstrate ongoing professional development in clinical practice and/or education;
  • Ensure compliance with all CAPTE standards related to clinical education;
  • Assist in student advisement and mentoring throughout the clinical education continuum;
  • Represent Quincy College at local, regional, and national meetings related to physical therapy education;
  • Support program outcomes assessment, data collection, and continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Participate in required training including but not limited to:
  • Title IX and Sexual Misconduct
  • Non-discrimination and Sexual Harassment
  • Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting
  • FERPA
  • Municipal Ethics Law
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
