Job Description
The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator is responsible for carrying out matters related to the fieldwork education program in coordination with the program director. These matters may include: accreditation/certification; program planning and assessment; developing and achieving annual goals/objectives; program marketing and student recruitment; student advising; fieldwork educator and fieldwork site training and development; and budget oversight and review. The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator also serves as a community contact and representative of the MOT program and faculty.
Brief Description of Workload:
This full-time, clinical non-tenure track assistant professor is primarily responsible for the following:
Teaching in area of expertise and department needs as assigned. (25%)
Research portfolio development and study mentoring in support of program priorities. (5%)
Service in support of the program, college, university, and profession. (10%)
Administration of the fieldwork program. (60%)
Clinical support in service of program priorities and faculty development. (0-20%)
Travel expectation (up to 25%) for fieldwork education development and supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Program Director with maintaining/updating records in accordance with accreditation standards in respect to ACOTE and Northwest commission on Colleges and Universities.
Direct the MOT Program's fieldwork education program and provide an annual report to the Program Director each fall with an evaluation of the fieldwork education program including:
a. Year ACOTE statistics;
b. the effectiveness and performance of the fieldwork educators;
c. the quality and accessibility of fieldwork sites; and
d. a development plan for continuous quality improvement of the fieldwork education curriculum, program, and educator supports.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Fieldwork Education Program assessment plan including:
a. Maintaining/managing surveys associated with Fieldwork Education (Fieldwork Educator survey and feedback of the MOT program, Fieldwork Educator survey of the AFWC, Fieldwork Educator survey of the students, student survey of the fieldwork placement, fieldwork course evaluations, etc.);
b. quality review and improvement of fieldwork education through direct and indirect assessments which may include:
i. visits to fieldwork sites;
ii. phone calls with students, fieldwork educators, and appropriate fieldwork placement personnel;
iii. teleconferencing or other electronic correspondence with students, fieldwork educators, and appropriate fieldwork placement personnel;
c. audit student supervision to ensure they receive appropriate supervision and instruction from fieldwork educators; and
d. gather additional input from community partners to inform continued quality improvement of the fieldwork program.
- Manage Fieldwork Sites including:
a. Audit and renewal of fieldwork site contracts;
b. Maintaining updated site data for fieldwork sites.
Instruct and supervise students to ensure quality fieldwork education through direct patient care.
Coordinate, determine, and secure fieldwork scheduling, fieldwork site student placements, fieldwork site requirements, and student records.
Assist and cooperate with the department chair, program director, faculty, administration staff, and community fieldwork education partners in maintaining an effective program as determined by program/fieldwork evaluations.
Assist in program promotion and student recruitment.
Work closely with the department chair, program director, general counsel, and university senior leaders to assure consistent practices and procedures are followed.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in OT, or Bachelor's degree in OT and Master's degree or higher in related field (degree must be awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE recognized institutional accrediting agency).
Two years of documented full-time clinical experience (or equivalent to 2 years full-time) as an occupational therapist.
Roles and responsibilities of a fieldwork educator.
Current license to practice OT in the state of Idaho or ability to obtain OT licensure in the state of Idaho by applicants start date.
Current NBCOT Certification.
Current AOTA membership at the time of application (expiration date after anticipated start date).
All materials submitted including (3) references, CV/resume and cover letter, and statement of teaching philosophy.
Preferred Qualifications
At least five years of full-time clinical experience in occupational therapy practice (or the equivalent to 5 years of full-time experience).
Doctoral degree or evidence of intent to earn a doctoral degree (degree in progress, application submitted, correspondence with a program to inquire about beginning, etc.) in occupational therapy or related field.
Advanced certifications related to the practice of occupational therapy education.
At least three years of teaching experience, including experience as a fieldwork educator or in higher education within an OT or OTA program.
Leadership or management experience within the OT context.
Experience with program development.
Experience with the accreditation process.
Experience with distance technology to support classroom instruction.
Evidence of research dissemination and experience mentoring student research projects.
Experience with mentorship as either a mentor or mentee.
