Responsible for setting up, maintenance, and operations of the PFT system.

Must exhibit competency in the performance of routine patient assessment and in the ability to correctly recognize and interpret respiratory dysfunction.

Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.

Disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment, and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.

Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.

Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.

Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders, and maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.

Required Skills

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Certifications

Must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) upon hire.

New hires will have ninety (90) days from date of hire to obtain American Heart Association certifications. Notwithstanding this 'grace period' for obtaining American Heart Association certifications, employees are not excused from being current in any and all existing certifications that are required for their position as outlined in the position job description.

Licenses\:

Current licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of NM.

This position will require either a certified respiratory therapist or certified RPSGT (required for reading of studies.) Sleep study experience is preferred.
