Position OverviewUnited Health Services (UHS) is seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant to join its patient care team in a nursing home setting. The Physical Therapy Assistant will support physical therapists in delivering high-quality rehabilitative services to residents by assisting with treatment plans, guiding therapeutic exercises, and monitoring progress toward mobility and recovery goals. This role is essential in helping residents maintain or improve their physical function and quality of life.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care in a long-term care environment. Previous experience in a rehabilitation or nursing home setting is preferred. This is a per diem position, which means you will work on an as needed, agreed upon basis. Working hours will be assigned by your manager.

Compensation Range:

$22.89 - $32.76 per hour, depending on experience

This position is not eligible for benefits.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

+ Follow specific treatment procedures as directed by the supervising physical therapist, including preparing the patient for treatment, educating the patient about treatment indications and contraindications, and performing treatment procedures

+ Demonstrate knowledge of rehabilitation equipment and may administer standardized, structured tests under supervision

+ Maintain accurate records of each patients treatment, progress, or regression using paper and electronic systems, meeting reimbursement and regulatory criteria

+ Maintain confidentiality of patient information

+ Consult with the primary physical therapist regarding any changes in patient condition that may require re-evaluation or changes to the treatment plan

+ Submit billing for each patient treated accurately and in a timely manner, following established policies

+ Assist with discharge planning and provide patient and family education upon discharge from treatment

+ Support site manager and physical therapist in promoting patient care and accountability

+ Understand and comply with all emergency and crisis management protocols

+ Attend and participate in clinical in-services, staff group reviews, and continuing education courses as required by state law and organizational policies

+ Act in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the American Physical Therapy Association while performing duties

+ Maintain a clean and organized facility throughout the day

+ Collaborate with other professional staff and assist in assessments, co-treatments, and patient care conferences

+ Establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, families, and staff

+ Participate in discharge planning, make appropriate referrals, and coordinate durable medical equipment with vendors

+ Provide direction to departmental aides, volunteers, and physical therapy assistant students as needed

+ Engage in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives

+ Pursue professional development and contribute to team learning

+ Meet individual and departmental productivity targets

+ Comply with proper hand hygiene protocols to ensure patient safety

+ Maintain necessary continuing education units for licensure, certifications, and professional organizations

+ Participate in patient care conferences as assigned

+ Perform other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications

Minimum Required:

+ Graduate of an approved Physical Therapist Assistant program or equivalent with Associates of Applied Science in Physical Therapist Assistant

+ Licensed or license-eligible by NY state as a Physical Therapy Assistant.

+ CPR certification within the first three months of employment.

Preferred:

+ A combination of up to two years of education, training and clinical experience in an outpatient setting is preferred.
