Responsible for evaluation and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders affecting speech, voice, language and swallowing abilities in adults and pediatric patients. In the acute care setting, provide evaluations and recommendations for patient's candidacy for PO diet or need for non-oral nutritional support as well as assisting in speech and language screenings and recommendations for discharge needs. In the out patient setting, carry a varied caseload including: pediatric speech and language disorders, voice disorders, professional voice care, augmentative communication evaluations, alaryngeal speech training, dysphagia, aphasia and dysarthria.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Maintains comprehensive records regarding patient care in reports and correspondence both within the clinic and with outside healthcare providers. Maintains daily statistics and submits billing in timely order in compliance with department protocol.
  • Provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment for speech, voice and swallowing disorders.
  • Participates in research projects coordinated by the Speech Pathologists in conjunction with the Medical Director of Otolaryngology.
  • Attends and participates in continuing education within Lahey Clinic as well as outside conferences.
  • Complies with Speech, Voice and Swallowing infection control measures and safety program; and maintains a safe and neat working environment.
  • Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.
  • Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
  • Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.
  • Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Knowledge of Speech Language Pathology typically acquired by attaining a Master's degree in this field.
  • Licensure, Certification, Registration: Licensure by state of Massachusetts; certification by American Speech-Language Hearing Association.
