Position Summary:
The Music Therapist is recognized as a mental health professional and is responsible for planning and implementing therapeutic interventions for patients using formal programming. Interventions are designed specifically to assist children and families in coping with the stress and trauma often associated with a hospitalization. The Music Therapist provides ongoing assessment of child and family interventions and is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, supporting the social and emotional well being of the child and family.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy. Masters preferred. Board Certification (MT-BC) required within three months of employment. Completion of NICU-MT training.
- Current CPR certification ' Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required.
- A minimum of three to six months of experience with pediatric patients.
- Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication. This includes: assessment, evaluation and provision of accurate and timely handoff of child and family information with members of the healthcare team.
- Analytical ability to observe behaviors and direct appropriate music therapy programming and interventions in support of the individual child/family.
- Ability to position patients in the course of duties.
