Job Description
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
All Units
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides patient care for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics patients with cardiopulmonary compromise or needs.
Provides clinical supervision, as assigned for Therapist, Technicians, and Aides.
Assesses the workload on a daily basis. Assigns staff in accordance with their role and privileges. Ensures coverage of all patient care units. Provides direct patient care services as determined by staffing pattern.
Assist in planning, development, and coordination of following activities:
Performance Improvement
In-service Educational reviews for all team health care providers including physicians, nurses, aides, and students.
Equipment management and Environment of Care activities.
Management of Information.
Provides patient care services according to physicians' prescription and care plan.
Monitors on a daily basis: equipment and supply needs, medical gas and systems status, staffing, environment of care, patient care plans, CQIIPI activities.
Evaluates, investigates, and reports all incidents related to the provision of respiratory care services.
Demonstrates competence in the provision of all aspects of respiratory care services.
Provides clinical instruction and supervision for procedures associated with high risk.
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of Respiratory Care techniques and procedures.
Manage the Cardio-Respiratory status of patients requiring continuous mechanical ventilation during transport.
Duties & Responsibilities
Purpose of Position:
This class of position may encompass supervisory, administrative and clinical activity with varying degrees of latitude for independent judgment involving day-to-day supervision of an operating segment of the Respiratory Therapy Department in the delivery of respiratory therapy services.
May perform respiratory therapy procedures as required. All personnel perform related work.
Examples of Typical Tasks:
Under general medical and technical direction of a duly licensed physician, with considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgement; may perform some of the duties described under Assignment Level I:
1. Identifies quality assurance issues and ensures adherence to established protocols and standards of care.
2. Provides in-service training related to the delivery of respiratory therapy services.
3. May participate in research activities related to respiratory care.
4. Participates in product evaluations.
5. Provides clinical supervision in specialty care areas as assigned.
Under medical and technical direction of a duly licensed Physician, with moderate latitude for independent initiative and judgment, performs the following functions and activities, in addition to or instead of duties described above for Assignment Level I:
1. Assists in the planning, development and coordination of the department quality assurance program.
2. Participates in the evaluation of discharged patients for home respiratory care.
3. Plans, develops and coordinates in-service training programs related to the delivery of respiratory therapy.
4. Plans, develops and coordinates research activities relating to respiratory therapy.
5. Plans, develops and coordinates product evaluations relating to respiratory care.
6. Arranges for the provision of clinical supervision in specialty care areas.
7. May be assigned duties and responsibilities of immediate supervisor in his or her absence on a temporary basis.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Graduation from an Associate Degree program in Respiratory Therapy approved by the New York State Board of Education or a program determined equivalent in accordance with the Commissioner of the State Board of Education's regulations; and,
2. Possession of a current license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of New York; and,
3. Possession of current registration as a Respiratory Therapist issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
