Position: Music Therapist – Adult & Geriatric Care
Location: Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center

Hours: M-F; between the hours of 8PM-5PM

We are seeking a dedicated Music Therapist to provide direct care to adult (18–72) and geriatric (72+) patients. In this role, you will design and deliver evidence-based music therapy interventions that align with each patient’s individualized Plan of Care, in accordance with Novant Health’s standards, policies, and procedures.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement therapeutic music interventions tailored to patient needs.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support holistic patient care.
  • Provide expert consultation and maintain open communication with healthcare professionals.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance clinical practice.
  • Contribute to program development, student mentorship, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors Degree, required. Masters Degree, preferred.
  • Experience: Completion of Music Therapy degree and National Board certification with practicum and/or internship in a medical facility, required. Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence. Performs other duties as assigned. Individual will possess commensurate combination of education, experience and qualifications.
  • Licensure/Certification: National Board certification from the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) is required. AHA HS Certification required: some departments have additional advanced CPR requirements as listed on staff annual education record.
  • Additional Skills (required) :
    • Contribute to effectively managing the Plan of Care for adults (18-72), and geriatrics (72 + years) based on appropriate medical center standards, policies, and procedures.
    • Responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of music therapy or referral to other Healing Arts Network (HAN) modalities to contribute to a developmentally appropriate plan of care and to effectively care for each patient.
    • Supervises the work of approved HAN practitioners to work in a hospital setting.
    • Develops and coordinates volunteer program to educate and train volunteers.
    • Appropriately communicates information in accordance to hospital policies and procedures and discipline-specific guidelines.
    • Contributes to program effectiveness by ensuring that Healing Arts Therapy modalities are offered with frequency indicated in assessment plan.
    • Coordinates community outreach projects and programming for the Medical Center patients, employees, and the community.
    • Organizes and performs work effectively and efficiently 9. Maintains and adjusts schedule to enhance team performance.
