JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB DEFINITION
The Itinerant Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides direct and consultative occupational therapy services to students ages 3-21 with disabilities across multiple school locations within Pendleton County Schools. Services are delivered in accordance with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. The COTA supports the development and implementation of individualized therapy interventions that enhance students' participation in their educational environments Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are representative of performance expectations and may include, but are not limited to:
- Provide direct occupational therapy services in accordance with IEP goals and under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist
- Implement intervention plans using therapeutic tools and strategies developed by the supervising OT
- Collaborate with special education teachers, general education staff, and IEP team members to support student access to curriculum
- Assist in collecting data and documenting student progress for therapy reports and evaluations
- Maintain accurate records, session notes, and service logs as required by state and district policy
- Travel to assigned school sites to deliver services and support student needs
- Maintain equipment, therapy materials, and ensure treatment areas are organized and safe
- Participate in IEP meetings when requested to provide input related to occupational therapy
- Assist with classroom staff training related to student needs, adaptive equipment, and therapy strategies
- Adapt tasks and materials under the direction of the OT to support fine motor, sensory, and daily living skills
- Support inclusive practices by integrating therapy goals into classroom routines when appropriate
- Uphold confidentiality of student information and maintain professional communication with staff and families
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
- Associate's Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Current national certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
- Current West Virginia licensure through the WV Board of Occupational Therapy
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between school sites
Preferred:
- One year or more of experience providing occupational therapy services to school-aged children
- Familiarity with IEP processes and IDEA regulations
- Experience working in rural or multi-site educational settings
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- This is an itinerant position requiring regular travel throughout Pendleton County
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and assist students with physical needs
- Work may involve sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and occasional lifting
- Must be able to communicate effectively in person and by phone
- Requires the ability to operate therapy equipment and a computer
- Services may be delivered in classrooms, therapy rooms, or other school environments
