Job Description / Essential Elements:

SPEECH & LANGUAGE THERAPIST

Summary of Responsibilities: The Speech and Language Therapist administers and coordinates diagnostic, therapeutic and consultative functions relative to communication disorders. Establishes and teaches programs when appropriate for communication disorders. Receives and processes referrals for speech and language disorders. Participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings and initiates IEP's for qualified students who need speech and language remediation. Conducts preschool speech and language evaluations when needed.

Qualifications:

1. Appropriate California Teaching Credential authorizing

service as a speech and language therapist.

2. Good oral and written communication skills.

3. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the administration of a speech and language program.

4. Knowledge of instructional methodologies appropriate to

a speech and language program.

5. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with

administration, staff, parents, and other agencies.

Comments and Other Information

The District will pay annual dues to the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and the California Speech

Language Hearing Association (CSHA) for Speech and Language Pathologists.

The District will pay annual dues to the California Association of School Psychologists (CASP) and the National Association of

School Psychologists (NASP) for School Psychologists.

The District will pay for professional conferences every three years to get 30 hours of training required to maintain licenses for

the Speech and Language Pathologists and School Psychologists.

The District will pay annual dues to the California Association of School Social Workers (CASSW) for School Social Workers.

The District will pay annual dues to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) for School Counselors. School

Psychologists and Speech and Language Pathologists receive the Special Education Stipend.
