Summary
Reporting to the Interim Director for the Crabtree Center for Student Well-being, within the Division of Student Life, the counselor provides short-term, solution-focused individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and wellness education to support the mental health and overall well-being of W&J students. The role involves collaborating with campus partners to foster a healthy, inclusive, and supportive campus environment, enabling students to thrive academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Individual and Group Counseling: Deliver confidential, culturally sensitive counseling for a range of psychological, emotional, and interpersonal issues.
- Crisis Intervention: Respond to mental health emergencies during office hours and coordinate with after-hours crisis resources as needed.
- Outreach and Prevention: Develop and present educational programming and outreach to promote mental health awareness and prevention across campus.
- Consultation: Collaborate with faculty, staff, parents, and campus partners to support student well-being, while maintaining student confidentiality.
- Referral Services: Assess student needs and refer to off-campus or telehealth providers when appropriate, including through the BeWell@W&J program for after-hours and specialized care.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, confidential records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Campus Collaboration: Participate in campus wellness initiatives, Title IX response, and support accommodations for students affected by trauma or in need of academic adjustments.
Qualifications
- Education: Master's degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or a related field.
- Licensure: Pennsylvania licensure (or eligibility) as a mental health professional (e.g., LPC, LCSW, LMFT).
- Experience: Experience in college counseling, crisis intervention, and outreach preferred.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, and cultural competency skills; ability to work with diverse student populations.
Additional Information
- Hours: Monday-Friday, 9am-12pm & lpm-Spm. Urgent care/crisis counseling typically available weekdays, 3pm-4pm.
- After-Hours Support: 24/7 crisis counseling line and teletherapy available through BeWell@W&J..
- Location: New Residence Hall, Ground Level, 10 N. College Street, Washington, PA.
