Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for thedelivery of quality care to patients. Involving assessing, diagnosing,treating, and helping to prevent communication and swallowing disorders. Workwith patients to develop and strengthen the muscles used to swallow to preventchoking, under the supervision of the Clinical Director.

Requirements:

Masters Degree in Speech LanguagePathology.

Current and unrestricted license to practice Speech LanguagePathology with the State of Texas through TDLR.

Current CPR/BCLS certification.

Educated and compliant with all HIPPAregulations; maintains strict client confidentiality.

Mustbe willing to work at Terrell State Hospital, a mental health facility withpatients that may have a dual diagnosis.

Must abide by therules, regulations, and policies of HHSC and Terrell State Hospital.

Must abide bystaffing agency and TSHs attendance and leave policy

Must comply with HHSC immunizationrequirements

COVID-19 testing with negative resultrequired

COVID-19 Vaccination Card, ifapplicable

Must submit to HHSC required drug test

Must submit to HHSC requiredfingerprinting and background check

Mustcomplete facility and HHSC required training

Responsibilities:

  • Swallowing assessment includes accurate history taking, examination, direct patient observation, and collaboration with a treatment team/attending physician leading to the establishment of a diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Performs periodic re-evaluation of the patient as necessary and makes adjustments in the patients treatment plan as needed in accordance with physician goals and orders.
  • Documentation in patients medical record is clear, concise, and identifies target symptoms.
  • Frequency of documentation is appropriate to level of care patient required and addresses referrals as appropriate to internal departments and referrals to outside providers.
  • Compliance with HHSC and facility documentation timeframe requirements.
  • Provides and monitors facility Standard Operating Procedures to meet standards for compliance with accrediting agencies; specifically Joint Commission guidelines, CMS Standards, TSH Policy and Directives and HHSC Standards, Rules and Directives.

License, Certification,or Registration Required :

  • Current and unrestricted license to practice Speech Language Pathology with the State of Texas through TDLR
  • Must be certified by the American Heart Association BLS in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and maintain that certification while providing services at the Terrell State Hospital.
  • Copies of CPR certifications must be kept on file with TSHs Contracting office.
  • All certifications must be current and remain as such while providing services at the Terrell State Hospital

SelectionProcess:

  • The Staffing Agency with the selected candidates will be notified by email.
  • TSHs Agency Hiring Coordinator will communicate with the agency and candidate(s) on dates and times to begin the process of on-boarding.
